The Hot Wheels (and Barbie) computers have been steeped in controversy for years. Always a popular hit with kids when they come to the museum, the flame adorned PC and accompanying 15" monitor, mouse, mousepad, and speakers (and even steering wheel) really seem to be something the kids want to play.

The sad part is that due to some manufacturing flaws, most of these machines die and Patriot got stuck repairing and replacing so many of them that it drove them out of business. Worse, they took money and orders right up to the end and ended up not shipping thousands of units and failing to pay Mattel royalties.

Mattel, who didn't directly have anything to do with all this, offered customers that were burned a $100 voucher for their store.

The package came with Windows 98 and a great selection of software.

Check out the sales brochure that shows everything that was included with both the Hot Wheels Computer and the Barbie Computer!

Have a Barbie PC for sale, including the tower, original floppy drive (removed), and a driver disk. New, working floppy drive installed. Power supply is a bit wonky; sometimes you need to mash the power button to get it to turn on. Bearings bad on CPU (?) fan. Fresh copy of Win98 installed. Asking for around $150. Will throw on eBay by the end of August if I don't get a response. Also, if anyone's looking for drivers for the Hot Wheels PC or Barbie PC, shoot me an email and I'll send you an ISO of them. Email: joseph14078@gmail.com

I got one of these for Christmas 1999 from my parents. I remember it came about 1-2 weeks early and my parents "hid" the 2 boxes (computer + monitor box). It has been an incredibly reliable machine for us. to this day, we still use it for gaming as i have many old games that wont play on anything but windows 1998. Every year I bring it in to a shop and get it cleaned out to get rid of dust, etc. The only part I currently use is the CPU, I don't want to wear out the other pieces such as mouse, keyboard, speakers, monitor, steering-wheel, pedals. We have had other computers from the 1990's but this Hotwheels computer is the only one still working out of many that we have had since 1999. It has been very reliable, but never hooked up to the internet as it only has a phone jack, no Ethernet plug. The original hardware specs are; - 500MHZ - 64MB RAM - 10GB HDD - 4 USB Ports; instead of serial ports as shown in the setup diagram

it looks like a hot-wired (ha! hotwheels, hot-wired! i've solved it) mac or another desktop p.c., to play hotwheels games. probably the same with the barbie computer. the game it's playing looks cool, though. is there an online version that i can play on my macbook?

looking for parts on Tuesday, November 11, 2014
Just got old Hot Wheels PC out of storage and realized a few parts missing - figure one box of parts is missing. Not sure how that would happen - missing keyboard, one speaker, power cords. And the mouse is not useable - have just mouse, no cord attached to it. Anyone have parts for sale? Bought for my son way back when they were out, for nostalgia sake would like to get it up and going again. See what is on it, etc.

they compressed hard drives to make them look bigger they shipped out used parts even CPU's they weren't plagued with bad parts they screwed over as many customers as they could, they took orders they took payment then as quick as they could they ran through bankruptcy to get from paying back or building the crap they were paid to . AS soon as they were done they established another scheme that preyed upon children

Haha. I came upon this site and brought back memories. I ordered one of these for my kids and it never, ever came. I did get a refund eventually but it took months. It's nice to learn a little more about what happened.

We also had a keyboard. It only lasted a few years same as the mouse, speakers, and the monitor and computer. We only have the steering wheel and the pedals and the hotwheels cd wallet and games left and the original windows 98 operating cd.
John Brooks on Thursday, January 05, 2012
We used to own a hot wheels patriot windows 98 and it came with a cd wallet, steering wheel, hotwheels computer games, hot wheels monitor, speakers, mouse, and mouse pad. The problem with it was the CD-rom drive kept on getting stuck so we had to take a knife to it so often but it was poorly designed as mentioned by others.
