In 1980, The Software Toolworks started as a publisher of software for Heath/Zenith personal computers. In 1986 they changed from Software Country to Software Toolworks. In 1994 The Software Toolworks was renamed Mindscape and then acquired SSI.
In 2001 The Learning Company, Software Toolworks and SSI sold to Gore Technology Group, which in turn sold them to UBI Soft.
The Software Toolworks was founded by Walt Bilofsky.
