EPYX produced a variety of games for the early home computing platforms. They deserve recognition for being one of the first software companies to actively exhibit at the Consumer Electronics Show in the early 1980s (albeit under a different name). Epyx branded themselves with slogans suggesting that their games were more intellectual than games produced buy other companies. The "tag line" for this particular release is "Strategy Games for the Action-Game Player."

Gateway to Apshai is the first part of the Apshai series. Here is an excerpt from the back of the box.

"Enter the world of APSHAI with this exciting adventure game. The famous Temple of Apshai Strategy is the basis of this action-packed cartridge. GATEWAY TO APSHAI is a real test of your skill and wits. Using joystick control, you must collect all the treasures on each level in less than 7 minutes while finding your way through complex mazes. And, you only have 5 lives you can lose! ... "

Epyx released games in a variety of forms. The museum's copy of this game is a cartridge. Documentation is not present. The box provides a graphic "rating" of the game through pictures. This game is a "two-thinker-one-joystick" kind of game - presumably suggesting that it requires more thinking than gameplay.
