Before LightWave came Videoscape 3D and Aegis Modeler 3D on the Commodore Amiga. Videoscape was written by Allen Hastings and Modeler 3D by Stuart Ferguson, giving a historical basis behind the split personality of LightWave 3D.

VideoScape featured 3-D solid graphics, smooth camera motion, multiple resolutions, frame generation and of course supported the IFF format. Because it was originally an Aegis product is also included support for the Aegis/Sparta ANIM format and included artwork created by Jim Sachs, Richard LaBarre and Allen Hastings himself.

There was a very impressive demo reel out there that showed off just what VideoScape could do, and it was no surprise that NewTek chose this as the basis for LightWave.

My first 3D software. Very expensive in 1988 dollars, but this got me started on my 3d modelling and animation journey. Thanks for sharing this.
