The interesting thing about this software is that it's written in itself. Because this language has a built-in byte compiler, it can self generate code, then execute it on the fly. At one point, both a friend and I were working with Inovatronics to produce a slightly different version of this app (unleashing the full potential of the language). I'm not sure that Inovatronics liked what we had done, but they were willing to entertain us with possibly releasing the software. We worked through several revisions, but found that they stopped working with us on it. I believe this is when the company began to struggle financially and they let some of their staff go. Parts of this application were written in assembly to increase the execution speed. This is part of the reason this language ran so fast even for being interpreted. As a language, it was a very powerful language, but they had wrapped it tightly in the easy-to-use GUI IDE environment. If they had just released the language as a language with a compiler, I believe it would have had much more profound success on the Amiga. I mean, it was a snap to build applications with this language. Instead, it ended up being a Hypercard clone instead of being a more accepted as general purpose language. To date, other than perhaps LISP, there hasn't been another language that comes close to what CanDo could do.
