Gridrunner (Alternate Label)

Gridrunner (Alternate Label)

Release Date: 1/1/1983
Manufacturer: HES
Jeff Minter wrote a stack of games for the Vic-20. This one was released with - if memory serves - a bit of fanfare suggesting that the game had 14 levels but not even the programmers had been able to make it past level 12. The game itself is an enjoyable flurry of activity. The player controls a spaceship moving around on a grid. Centipede like characters travel around the board and the player is responsible for vaporizing them. While all of this is going on, other spaceships patrol the edges of the grid trying to destroy the player. Later levels can become quite frantic.

As with all HES cartridges, the author's name is featured on the cartridge's label.

This one says "HesWare" as the manufacturer, whereas our other one just says "HES".
