John Madden football has become arguably the largest sports franchise in video game history. From its humble beginnings in 1988 by programmer Robin Antonick.
In order to boost awareness of the game, Electronic Arts did a deal with computer floppy disk manufacturer Maxell to include a special version of the game (sub titled "Two Minute Warning Edition") with every box of Maxell disks sold. It is unknown how many were distributed, but it was likely a lot.
Owners of non-DOS systems (the game required an IBM PC compatible machine with at least DOS 2.0) could always just format the 11th disk in the box and use it for something else.
