The UNIT is the system that allows anyone to back-up ROM cartridges to disk or cassette. No special knowledge of computers and/or programming is required. The software will auto-boot and is self-documenting and menu drive. All you have to do is follow the instructions on the screen. Once the files have been created the ROM cartridge is no longer needed. The UNIT program will also back itself up onto disk or cassette (not like many of other back-up programs).

Requires an Atari computer with 48K of RAM.

This appears to be extremely rare and the instructions mention that it is an update to an earlier 3.3 version. If you know more about this please let us know.

The manual is also available.

This looks very similar to a cartridge I had for my Atari called "Cart Clone". It looks the same size. The plastic was black. Mine had a slider switch and a red LED on top. If I remember correctly I had to boot from the cart clone disk. It would then tell you when to insert the cartridge. If you did jam it in quickly the whole pc would lock up. It would then copy the cartridge to the disk. To play the game you had to have the cartridge inserted and pick the game from the disk. At one point to had to slide the switch. I can't remember if it was before or after you selected the game. Anyway I believe it flashed the cart clone and then reboot from the cart clone to play the game. If I ever unpack my Atari stuff I'll have to see if I still have it.
